Introduction:
Health is more than just the absence of disease—it’s a state of physical, mental, and social well-being. Last week, the Community Health Evangelism (CHE) team brought this holistic vision to life in the Nakitun Residential Area through a three-day workshop focused on good health, healthy homes, basic life skills, and oral health awareness. Attended by 57 participants, including local church members, community leaders, youth, and women representatives, the workshop was a resounding success.

The Power of Community Engagement:
One of the standout features of the workshop was the diversity of its participants. From pastors to youth leaders, every attendee brought a unique perspective and a shared commitment to improving their community’s health. This collaborative spirit was evident in the lively discussions, group activities, and hands-on training sessions.
Key Workshop Highlights:
- Good Health Practices:
Participants learned about the importance of nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention. Practical demonstrations, such as proper handwashing techniques, made the lessons easy to understand and implement. - Healthy Homes:
The concept of a “healthy home” was a major focus. Attendees were taught how to build dish racks, create compost pits, and use mosquito nets to prevent malaria. These small but impactful changes can significantly improve a family’s health. - Basic Life Skills:
From soap making to basic first aid, the workshop equipped participants with skills they can use daily and share with others. - Oral Health Awareness:
A dedicated session on oral hygiene emphasized the importance of brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups. Participants also learned how diet affects oral health and how to care for their teeth using affordable methods.
Impact Stories:
- Mary’s Journey:
Mary, a mother of three, was particularly inspired by the Healthy Homes session. “I never realized how simple changes like building a dish rack or using a mosquito net could make such a big difference,” she said. Mary has already started implementing these practices at home and is teaching her neighbors to do the same. - James’ Transformation:
A youth representative, James shared how the oral health session changed his perspective. “I used to think brushing my teeth was optional,” he admitted. “Now, I understand how important it is for my overall health.”
The Road Ahead:
The Nakitun workshop is just the beginning. CHE plans to follow up with participants to ensure they’re applying what they learned and to provide additional support as needed. The ultimate goal is to create a ripple effect, where each participant becomes a health advocate in their community.
Conclusion:
The Nakitun CHE workshop demonstrated the power of community-driven health education. By equipping individuals with knowledge and skills, CHE is not just improving health—it’s transforming lives.
