Community Preventive Medical Care (CPMC)
World Hypertension Day, 17th May, 2025

Theme: “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, and Live Longer”

On this World Hypertension Day 2025, Community Preventive Medical Care (CPMC) joins the global community in raising awareness about the silent but deadly condition known as high blood pressure, or hypertension. This year’s theme—“Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, and Live Longer”—is a timely reminder of the importance of early detection and proper management of blood pressure to prevent life-threatening complications.

Hypertension is a leading cause of heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and premature death. Alarmingly, many people live with high blood pressure unknowingly, making regular and accurate measurement critical.

At CPMC, we emphasize prevention through simple, sustainable lifestyle changes. We urge the public to take the following seven practical steps to prevent and manage high blood pressure naturally:

  1. Eat a Balanced, Low-Sodium Diet: Prioritize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins while reducing salt intake, especially from processed foods.
  2. Stay Physically Active: Engage in at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a week to keep your heart strong and pressure in check.
  3. Maintain a Healthy Weight: Even modest weight loss can significantly lower blood pressure and improve overall health.
  4. Limit Alcohol Consumption: Drink in moderation—no more than two drinks per day for men and one for women.
  5. Quit Smoking: Smoking damages your arteries and elevates blood pressure. Quitting is one of the best things you can do for your health.
  6. Manage Stress Levels: Adopt stress-reducing practices like deep breathing, meditation, prayer, or talking with a trusted friend.
  7. Monitor Your Blood Pressure Regularly: Know your numbers. A normal blood pressure is below 120/80 mmHg. Regular checks help you take timely action.

Hypertension is preventable, manageable, and reversible when detected early. Let us take responsibility for our health. Let us measure, manage, and protect our lives.

NB: On Sunday, 18th May, 2025, we shall be providing free high blood pressure screening in Lokwilili Residential area at Truth and Life Ministry Church at 11 am

Together, we can reduce the burden of hypertension in our communities.
